Anti Terrorist Squad
ATS is short form of Anti Terrorist Squad. The ATS is a special police force that plans to counter terrorist attacks and activities. In various states of India including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The ATS has foiled several terrorist attacks in the country.
ATS was established in Maharashtra in 1990 by the then Additional Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Aftab Ahmed Khan, who was A.A. Khan.
Objectives of ATS:
- For information about anti-caste elements operating in all areas of Maharashtra.
- Coordination and exchange of information with central intelligence agencies like IB and RAW.
- To collaborate with similar agencies in other states.
- To track and eliminate the activities of mafia, gangs and other organized criminal organizations.
- Detect counterfeit bills and drug trafficking.
